April Fools!

Writer's picture: Dr. ChrissyDr. Chrissy

I absolutely detest April Fools Day. Primarily because most of the jokes are just plain mean and almost always someone winds up hurt. I have watched friends cry over people posting fake pregnancy announcements when they are unable to conceive. I have watched fights brew in relationships because one person thought it would be funny to joke about an affair. My list could go on and on...

That being said, I love to laugh and I love to make others laugh. So today I would like to introduce an alternative to April Fools' Day--Laughter Day!

Instead of coming up with a prank that could be misunderstood or hurtful, I am going to encourage each and every one of my readers to instead make someone else laugh! Some ideas:

How about a dad joke?

  • Why did the man name his dogs Rolex and Timex? Because they were watch dogs.

  • What did the evil chicken lay? Deviled eggs.

  • What’s the best way to watch a fly-fishing tournament? Live stream.

  • My wife asked me to sync her phone, so I threw it into the ocean. I don’t know why she’s mad at me.

  • And my personal favorite: Why did the cookie go to the hospital? Because he felt crummy!

Tell a funny story (not at someone's expense), unless it is your own expense! Perhaps you have some fun, most embarrassing moments stories (I know I do!), or something hilarious your child or pet did. If your life is anything like mine, you have a plethora of life experiences to draw upon.

Do you do any imitations? I have some friends that can do the most hysterical impersonations! They can sound like Peter Griffin or Eric Cartman and make me laugh for hours.

Play a funny game. Games like Cards Against Humanity and That's What She Said usually make me laugh so hard my tummy hurts!

Let's spend this highly controversial day bringing back its original intention--laughter!
