Is there anything more exciting than something new? A new passion, a new endeavor, a new travel destination, a new haircut, or even a new outfit? Have you ever noticed that that when you are experiencing something new you are just so excited to share about it with everyone?
My sister-in-law recently went back to school to finish her degree. She has been back in classes for a little over a year now, and she loves to talk about what she is learning in her classes and what she is reading in her textbooks. It is still new and VERY EXCITING. I think my favorite part is watching her eyes light up when she is talking about her latest discovery. The joy on her face is absolutely contagious and it is an incredible feeling on both sides of the conversation!
I remember when I started my doctoral program at the University of Arkansas. First, a disclaimer, I was scared to death. I really doubted my abilities and basic intelligence but didn't want to miss the opportunity I was given. AND I WAS SO EXCITED! I remember walking across the campus with a bounce in my step (although I am told that I almost always walk that way!) and thinking to myself over and over again, "I am going to be a doctor!" Although it definitely was not always fun and easy, I loved talking about and sharing my excitement with others.
In honestly, I am this excited with anything new! The last time I cut my hair (it was well over a year ago, probably closer to two, I don't splurge on things like that often), I couldn't wait to take some selfies and show off my new 'do! I recently booked a trip to Estes Park, Colorado. I am so excited for, again, something new!
Why am I going on and on about the joy and excitement of newness? Because, like many of you, I also know what it feels like to be in a rut. It's depressing and sad, and extraordinarily unfulfilling! Also like many of you, I do KNOW when I am in a rut and that something needs to change. I need the excitement and joy of a start!
So whether its finding a new love or starting a new hobbies, never ever give up the start and the joy that comes along with it!
