I don't know about any of you, but lately, I have been an overwhelmed, stressed out mess. I am short and snappy with the people I love the most and almost constantly have anxiety. Although, it has gotten better (mostly be forcing myself to spend some money on some much needed and fully-earned self-care), it remains an issue almost daily.
So, in order to handle this horrible sense of being overwhelmed, I have incorporated a new breathing regimen that I would like to share with all of you that is helping me tremendously. You have no idea how much I forget to breathe Oftentimes, I find myself holding my breath, and I don't even know why. Try this with me:
Dr. Chrissy's Soon-To-Be-Famous Positivity Breathing
First, Breathe in. A nice big breath that forces either your chest or your tummy to expand. Hold it for about 3-4 seconds and then release it as slowly as possible. As you release it imagine that you are literally blowing out the things in your life that are causing you tension or stress. Truly picture them in your head as you continue to exhale.
Breathe in another deep breath. This time, as you are inhaling imagine all the things in your life that make you smile. Your family and friends, your pets, your hilarious coworker in the office next door, the smell of baking cookies, absolutely anything that makes you smile. Now hold these, images for 3-4 seconds, and exhale this time holding onto the good things.
You can repeat this as often as needed, but i am finding that doing the entire process 3-5 times does the trick. I am feeling calmer, less overwhelmed and happier. The entire process also takes literally less than a minute so for all of you naysayers out there that keep saying you don't have time or money for self-care, this one is no excuses for sure.
