Values

With huge thanks to Veronica Jackson and Robin Freeman for inspiring this blog post!

I oftentimes speak about signature strengths and discovering the power behind putting what you are good at into practice as much as possible as a means of being fulfilled and happier. Today, I had the privilege of attending the ARA conference (virtual of course) and had just an incredible day! One of the many important takeaways from today was the idea of utilizing your values as a means of achieving greater happiness. I am going to encourage you to take the same assessment that I took and find out what your top 5 values are (also share them in the comments below).

My top 5 are: Excitement, Happiness, Relationships, Helping Others and Integrity.

How can knowing this about myself make me a happier person? Well, it is really quite simple, I can choose to live them, rather than have them be some meaningless words I scribbled onto a post it. I can clearly define each of these values, after all I chose them, and figure out how I will reflect each of them in my everyday life!

For example:

Since I value excitement, in other words, I hate being bored or seeing other bored around me, I am going to make things as lively and fun as possible.

Since I value happiness, bringing happiness to others, I am going to do things in my power to make people smile and bring them joy.

Since I value relationships, namely my family and friends, I am going to do things daily that strengthen those bonds and invest actively in them.

Since I value helping others, I am going to devote more of time to helping others actively, whether its my students, colleagues or complete strangers.

Since I value integrity, being the best version of myself I can be, I am going to act with sincerity, genuineness and love to all people.

I absolutely love this, and I am looking forward to seeing how it reshapes my life! I strongly encourage you to take the assessment and plug your values into your own life! Let's all be happier together!
